On Wednesday afternoon, as part of their PDF lessons, Year 13 volunteered at Leybourne Lakes Country Park.
This week, the students finished a hedgerow they had started planting last month. The students worked together to put wood chips around the base of each new plant reducing weeds and giving them extra nutrients.
With plenty of watering in the first year and cutting back the year after, the hedge will take around five years to fully establish.
Once grown, the hedgerow will provide shelter and homes for a variety of wildlife including hedgehogs, small nesting birds, dormice, and other small mammals as well as insects and butterflies.
