Our standard path to Year 7 entry involves assessment and interview while your child is in Year 6, on our scheduled Assessment Day in November of the year preceding entry. School place offers are given after the assessment by the end of November. Once a school place has been offered, you have the flexibility to decide whether to accept it any time before, or wait until, the first week of March in the year of entry.
We recognise that it is not always possible to apply to this schedule and, where space allows, we are always happy to consider later applications. Please contact the Admissions team to discuss your needs and your child’s application.
For parents looking for the reassurance of securing a school place for Year 7 well in advance, we offer a ‘fast track’ option as an alternative, which provides for assessment while a child is in Year 5. This option allows students to take the assessment and interview earlier than our scheduled Year 6 Assessment Day. Once a school place has been offered, you likewise have the flexibility to decide whether to accept it any time before, or wait until, March of the year of entry, e.g. for entry in September 2026, acceptance will not be required until March 2026 though may be actioned any time before.
BOOK A SCHOOL TOUR
We warmly invite families to schedule a personal school tour on weekdays during term-time to experience Cobham Hall first-hand. During this visit, you’ll explore our beautiful campus, meet our dedicated teachers, and engage with our students. It’s a chance to observe a typical school day, ask about our unique life-skills based curriculum, boarding options, pastoral care, co-curricular activities, music lessons, and more. We’re here to answer all your questions and provide insights into life at Cobham Hall.
ATTEND AN OPEN MORNING
We warmly invite families to join us for our Open Mornings, held twice a year. The next event is Saturday 5th October 2024, and the following one is on Saturday 15th March 2025. During these events, our current students will guide you on a tour of our magnificent grounds and historic buildings. Our dedicated teachers will be available to discuss our curriculum, including our unique life-skills based Perspectives programme. You’ll also have the opportunity to participate in special fun activities, demonstrations, and informative talks. Refreshments will be served in our Vestibule and Old Library, followed by a welcoming address from our Headmistress, Mrs Wendy Barrett, in our stunning Gilt Hall. Our Leadership and Admissions teams will be available to talk to you about next steps and answer any questions you may have.

Once you’ve visited Cobham Hall on a School Tour or Open Morning and are ready to begin an application for your child, we kindly request that you:
Once we have received the above, our Admissions Team will promptly acknowledge your application and initiate the next stage of assessments for your child. We look forward to guiding you through this exciting process.
As part of our assessment process, we invite Year 5 students (wishing to use the FastTrack process) or Year 6 students to sit a CAT4 (online cognitive ability assessment) and have an interview with a member of our Leadership Team. This can be done anytime during the school year (term-time) once your child is registered.
We also have a Year 6 Assessment Morning on Saturday 16th November 2024, where all students can attend in a group setting. During the morning, they will take the CAT4 and have their interview. While Cobham Hall is not academically selective, this assessment helps us understand how your child learns, identifying their strengths and areas where they might need extra support. We understand students can feel nervous about taking an assessment at a new school, but rest assured, we take a very understanding and supportive approach to ensure they feel comfortable throughout the process.
This day is more than just assessments; it’s a wonderful opportunity for students to meet and bond with their potential new peers. Through activities and games, they will create new friendships while awaiting their turn for an informal interview. This allows our Leadership Team to get to know the students better and provides a chance for the students to ask any questions they may have. We look forward to welcoming them.
Once your child has completed the assessment stage of their application, our Admissions Team, along with our Leadership Team, will review all aspects of their application to determine whether we are able to offer a place and, if so, whether any specific additional support will be required.
For the Year 6 Assessment Day in the November of the year preceding entry, offer letters are typically issued by the end of that month. Where assessment takes place outside the Assessment Day, you should expect to receive a decision withing two weeks.
We kindly ask that the Acceptance Form and Acceptance Deposit be sent by the date specified in the offer letter. Generally, we request that Year 7 places for September 2025 be accepted by March 2025.
When your child has received a school place offer, they have the exciting opportunity to apply for a Scholarship in Art, Music, Sports, or Drama. Auditions and interviews for these scholarships are held in the January of the year of admission. For 2025 entry, these will be held on Saturday 11th January 2025, but we will always do what we can to facilitate later applications where possible.
Application for Academic Scholarships is by invitation only based on assessment. Candidates will be invited to sit papers in English and Mathematics.
If a scholarship is awarded, it provides a 20% reduction in fees. The student will also join our scholarship programme, which aims to stretch, challenge and develop their talents, and where they will be guided by our Head of Scholarships to produce termly pieces of work. In return for the privileges afforded by a scholarship, we hold our Scholars to high expectations of behaviour and overall conduct.
The School may consider applications for a means-tested bursary (financial assistance) from parents of students who have passed our Entrance Assessments and been offered a full fee-paying place. The Mill Hill Education Group has only limited funds to provide bursaries across its schools, and we receive many more applications than we are able to support.
Please email admissions@cobhamhall.com for further details of scholarships and bursaries.
Once you have accepted your child’s school place, you will be invited to our school events, such as our musical theatre productions, creative arts festival, and many more activities to help you feel part of the Cobham Hall community before joining us in September.
We also have a Familiarisation Day for all incoming Year 7s on a Saturday in the June prior to entry. During this day, students will meet Mrs Emma Wilkinson, our Head of Lower School, and other staff members. The day is filled with fun activities and games, allowing everyone to get to know each other and Cobham Hall better.
We finish the day with a Welcome BBQ, providing an opportunity for incoming students, parents, and staff to connect and enjoy some lovely refreshments. You can also purchase pre-loved uniform items from our parent group, the Unicorn Association.
We also welcome applications year-round, including for mid-year entries. Please contact our Admissions team for further information.
Many students choose to move to Cobham Hall for their GCSE years, recognising the enormous benefit of our small class sizes in allowing them to achieve to their full potential in these critical exams.
Though the vast majority of students – both UK and international – join our Upper School in Year 10, at the start of their GCSE journey, many have transitioned directly into Year 11 with great success. In considering such transfers to Year 11, for UK students, the curriculum and examination board followed to date is a key factor; do please contact the admissions team to discuss your child’s particular circumstances. We offer bespoke Year 11 programmes to international students, depending on their circumstances, desired next steps and learning to date. Please contact admissions@cobhamhall.com to discuss your needs.

Our Sixth Form offers exceptional opportunities for growth, learning, leadership skills and personal development, with an award-winning life-skills based curriculum – Future Perspectives – in a stunning setting.
Though, as a non-selective school, we do not require a specific baseline level of GCSE attainment for entry to Sixth Form, certain A Level subjects do have minimum entry requirements: experience shows that success in these subjects will be extremely difficult at this higher level without a proven level of aptitude. We can sometimes offer flexibility in particular circumstances. For more details on subject expectations, please reach out to us at admissions@cobhamhall.com.
While our standard pathway involves assessment in November or December of the year preceding planned entry, we recognise that this is not always possible and are pleased to welcome applications throughout the year.
We now offer a unique Foundation 3-year A Level Course designed for international students, who are academically able but whose English language skills are not yet of the standard needed for successful A Level study. Please see our INTERNATIONAL section for details of how to apply.
